WHEN YOU’RE AUDITIONING, DO YOUR NERVES SOMETIMES GET THE BETTER OF YOU?
DO YOU SOMETIMES FEEL A BIT DEFEATED WHEN YOU KNOW YOU DID A GREAT AUDITION BUT DIDN’T LAND THE GIG?
MAYBE YOU GOT A CALL BACK BUT DIDN’T PROGRESS ANY FURTHER?
It can be extremely disheartening can’t it?
ARE YOU SICK OF WAITING TABLES, PARKING CARS OR DOING OTHER MUNDANE JOBS JUST TO MAKE ENDS MEET?
If so… I’ve got GREAT NEWS!!! It doesn’t have to be that way anymore!
To not only survive in this industry but THRIVE, you’re going to need:
A healthy self esteem
Bucket loads of self belief
And a strong “GROWTH mindset.”
I’ve spent the last fifteen years helping performers just like you land their dream roles, get into musicals, video clips, prestigious ballet companies, and sing with opera companies and symphony orchestra’s all across Europe.
I don’t need to tell you that this industry is highly competitive. It can sweep you up and spit you out. In the process of trying to make it, chances are you’ve found yourself wondering if it’s ever going to happen for you? Are you ever going to land that dream role/gig/place in a company etc….?
LET’S MAKE THOSE THOUGHTS A THING OF THE PAST
You can be the most talented performer and have all the skills in the world, but if your mindset isn’t aligned with your skill set, you’ll never rock your auditions and reach your true potential.
NEGATIVE BOXES AND LABELS
I bet you haven’t made it this far without being put in some sort of a negative box/label?
Believe me I know what that feels like. At the relatively late age of 16 after having studied jazz and tap for 3 years, and deciding I wanted to become a professional dancer, I ventured into my first ballet class only to be told told “you’re too old, too tall, don’t have enough turn out, have flat feet and might as well forget it.”
What did they mean forget it? Couldn’t they see I had a dancer inside?
Needless to say I sobbed all the way home. Once I calmed down my parents reassured me by saying I just hadn’t found the right school yet. So I ventured out to two more prestigious ballet schools only to be told exactly the same thing… to forget it!
So I did. I gave up on my dream of being a professional dancer and just took classes for my own enjoyment. But thankfully my dream didn’t give up on me. As fate would have it, I followed my boyfriend to London. Whilst that didn’t work out, I finally found a full time school that could see my potential and believed in me. And I turned professional age 21.
Since then I’ve had the immense pleasure of performing extensively throughout Europe. And guess what? My height was my BIGGEST ASSET!
I’ve also run two extremely successful school’s of performing arts, choreographed hair shows, fashion parades, and judged numerous prestigious competitions.
And for the last 15 years, I’ve peak performance coached athletes and performers just like you to make their dreams a reality.
So are you ready to do exactly that? If so.. please read on.
WAYS TO WORK WITH ME
I run workshops and coach performers just like you to identify and release all of your:
- Limiting beliefs
- Behaviors and
- Sabotage patterns that have been holding you back.
You’ll be amazed at what’s lurking below the surface in your unconscious mind. And let’s face it, its your unconscious mind that’s running the show!
Along with the stories you’re telling yourself about not being:
- Good enough
- Attractive enough
- Flexible enough
- Strong enough
- Lucky enough
- Tall enough
- Well connected enough etc…
ISN’T IT TIME TO START TELLING YOURSELF A BRAND NEW STORY?
Years ago I had the pleasure of coaching a full time ballet student who had received callbacks for the Royal Ballet School and the English National Ballet School. She was due to leave Australia for London in about two weeks.
When she started working with me, she was riddled with anxiety and self doubt to the point where she’d given herself the runs. And was even considering not going.
When I asked her what her biggest fear was, she said; “What if I don’t get in, and I have to come back and face all of my peers?” “And I’ll have wasted all of mum and dads money for nothing.”
She had two weeks of one on one coaching with me, and by the time she hopped on the plane to London we’d totally cleared out all of her limiting beliefs and re-framed the meaning of her auditions.
I told her that she should go and audition the Royal Ballet and National Ballet, to see if she felt they were the right company for her. That way she felt totally in control of the outcome. And guess what? She was accepted into both companies.
Fast forward a couple of months, prior to her flying to London to take up her position at the Royal Ballet School, I got a call from her saying “Kathryn I don’t know what’s wrong with me I can’t stop eating.” I knew immediately there was a sabotage pattern afoot. So we dug deeper and found the original belief that she wasn’t good enough.
We discovered that when she was about 8, she’d been told by someone of authority at the Australian Ballet who I’ll refer to as “The Wicked Witch of the South” that she’d never make it, because she didn’t have enough turnout.
And being young and impressionable, she believed her.
Sure she didn’t have 100% turnout but she was damn close. And she had EVERYTHING else; stunning feet, a great body, technique to die for, fabulous ballon (ability to jump) a beautiful lyrical quality and fabulous stage craft and presence. But the tiny 8 year old inside her now 15 year old body had held onto that incredibly destructive criticism and was about to sabotage what she had worked so very hard for.
Thankfully using some extremely powerful techniques I have in my toolkit we were able to blast that incredibly damaging limiting belief out of the water, and she went on to study at the Royal Ballet. And now dances in a prestigious ballet company here in the US.
